Class & Schedule

BEGINNER INTRODUCTION

  • First Introduction Class (Free): We welcome and encourage all individuals new to kendo to observe or practice.

  • Beginner’s Classes (One Month $100): If you feel kendo is right for you or your child(ren), you will start with our beginner’s month of classes where you will receive guidance and instruction from our experienced and friendly instructors.

  • Please wear comfortable clothing. Once ready, we will guide you on your purchase of your first set of uniform and shinai.

  • Schedule: Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:30 PM & Saturdays 2:00 to 4:00 PM

  • Please kindly be aware our dojo is composed of families where parents and youth practice together.


YOUTH MEMBERS (AGES 8 TO 18)

  • Children will not only learn fundamental basics, but also basic Japanese terminology, reiho (system of etiquette and manners), and reigi (system of courtesy and respect).

  • Your child(ren) will be guided every step of the way; from first equipment purchase and care, future gradings and tournaments, etc.

  • A ‘Welcome Packet’ will be provided and our instructors will always be there to answer any questions or concerns.

  • Schedule: Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:30 PM & Saturdays 2:00 to 4:00 PM

  • Monthly Membership Fee for Youth Ages 8-18:
    $120. Family discount applied for family of three or more, including adults (3rd+ person $60).

SCHEDULE & FEES

  • Led by Yoshino, Kosakaya or Koyama Sensei.

  • Our instructors have created structured classes appropriate for all ages. Whether your kendo journey is to pursue physical health, community, or competition, our classes will help develop your skill and spirit.

  • ‘Kenyukai’ also translated as ‘friendship club’ serves to provide a supportive community where all kenshi can come together to practice.

  • Schedule: Wednesdays 7:00 to 8:30 PM & Saturdays 2:00 to 4:00 PM

  • Monthly Membership Fee: Adults (18 and up) $130. School Enrolled Students (Any age) $120. Family discount applied for family of three or more, including adults (3rd+ person $60).

  • Visiting Kendokas: $20

All fees collected go directly toward dojo space and operation costs as our instructors proudly volunteer.
Depending on number of members, schedules may be subject to change, but our team will always make sure to have maximum number of classes as possible.

OUR DOJO

  • Brooklyn Kenyukai is a member of the All Eastern United States Kendo Federation (AEUSKF) and the All United States Kendo Federation (AUSKF). The AUSKF, the official governing body for the martial art of kendo in the U.S. It is a non-profit organization that coordinates national kendo activities, organizes tournaments, oversees high-level examinations, and represents the U.S. in the International Kendo Federation (FIK).

  • All instructors are registered with and have successfully obtained their ranks through shinsa (promotional examination) under an affiliated FIK organization (All United States Kendo Federation and/or the All Japan Kendo Federation). All instructors have completed courses and training under SafeSport.

  • Our dojo welcomes all; regardless of race, gender and background. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination, bullying nor harassment.

  • All fees are to help cover space and operation costs. Please kindly be aware that our dojo is proudly maintained by our team of dedicated volunteers who do not receive any financial compensation.

  • 当道場は、全米東部剣道連盟(AEUSKF)および全米剣道連盟(AUSKF)に加盟しています。AUSKFは、アメリカにおける剣道の公式統括団体であり、全国規模での剣道活動の運営、大会の開催、昇段審査の監督、そして国際剣道連盟(FIK)へのアメリカ代表としての活動を行う非営利団体です。

  • 当道場のすべての指導者は、FIK加盟団体(全米剣道連盟または全日本剣道連盟)に正式登録され、昇段審査に合格しています。また、SafeSportの講習および研修を修了しています。

  • ブルックリン剣友会では、人種、性別、経歴を問わず、どなたでも歓迎いたします。いかなる差別、いじめ、ハラスメントも容認いたしません。

  • 会費はすべて、道場の維持および練習場所の運営費に充てられています。当道場は、献身的なボランティア運営チームが、誇りを持って運営しております。
